Welcome

Hello! And welcome to our November newsletter. Can you believe that it's nearly December? Snow flurries last week aside, it feels like just a month ago it was September. Time obviously flies when we're delivering induction, visiting schools, facilitating NPQs, and helping our partners find ITT placements (could your school host a trainee teacher? Let us know!)!

Our Deputy Director and ITT Lead Kate has been conducting End Point Assessments for teacher apprentices and has been blown away by some of the amazing classroom practice she's witnessed. If you're hosting an apprentice teacher, do remember that once they've gained QTS they need to be registered on an ECF-based two year induction programme - this should be done at once, instead of waiting for the end of the apprenticeship.

And finally...

Earlier this month Kate, Ben and Susi had the enormous privilege of delivering information sessions about the English school system to a group of Kazakhstani headteachers. While delivering a presentation via an interpreter was a new and exciting challenge, we loved being able to exchange knowledge with our new friends - and discover the similarities and differences between the two different systems. Here they are, with Ben:

Spotlight on... Getting ready for January

If your school employs an ECT for a January start, please let us know as early as possible.

If you also wish to use the JTSH as your Appropriate Body you will need to complete a new service level agreement (SLA) for any new ECTs;  if you register them on ECT Manager before completing the SLA we will not authorise them until the paperwork is in place.

You will also need to register them and their mentor on the DfE online service, Manage training for early career teachers.

We will be running the following introductory conferences for January starters:

  • Mentor conference: Tuesday 14 January, 9am-4pm
  • ECT conference: Thursday 16 January, 9am-4pm

We are only running one iteration of these mandatory conferences, so please do ensure that your participants attend.

Staffing changes

This is your regular reminder to let us know if anything changes for your ECTs, particularly a change in mentor. We need our records to be up-to-date, and this will prevent unwanted emails from our team to your staff.

Focus on... NPQs

Unfortunately, we still don't have any confirmed information from DfE about NPQs for spring 2025. However, we now have an expression of interest form up and running so that you can be the first to know when we have information to share.

Complete the form here.
