Science/Maths Joint Numeracy Policy for GCSE and A level

LOCATION: Thorpe St Andrew, Laundry Lane, Norwich NR7 0XS

DATE & TIME: 15 July 2024 , 9:30am-3:30pm

There are many topics and skills taught in schools where Maths and Science are complementary, but there are also areas where the departments may take different approaches or use alternative language. These include: graph interpretation, rearranging formulae, significant figures, y = mx + c, and more.

In this session we will look at techniques where schools have been successful in working together, to the benefit of both departments. We will aim to:

  • Draft a joint departmental policy using the template provided
  • Engage with a number of short teaching ideas from tutors Alan Denton and Paul Hammond
  • Discuss best practices for teaching some mathematical skills used in science lessons.

Schools should aim to bring a member from both the Science and Maths departments, to jointly create a comprehensive draft policy ready to take back to both departments for discussion and - hopefully - sign off!

COST: £200 maintained schools / £300 non-maintained schools
70% TRP available, making the course £60! Contact smaschas@tgschool.net
